efore when I hear the word volleyball the first thing that pops in my head is that There is one ball hitting your arm so bad and hard that that arm will be broken, but that’s what I only feel. Being hurt is what I thought a Volleyball game would be when I don’t have the knowledge yet about volleyball. It was the end of the S.Y 2004-’05 I was turning 6th grade that time when my mom introduced volleyball to me. She introduced volleyball to me because she thought that my height will be a waste if I don’t use it not only that but also when she was a high school student she’s also one of the tallest girl in her class just like me and most of her friends are volleyball players so she was left behind and she graduated not even trying to be on the volleyball team. She doesn’t want me to end like that so she pushed me to “try out” for the girl’s volleyball team when I turned 6th grade.
Having knowledge in volleyball is not that easy. Learning the terms, rules and regulations, and most of all is teamwork. I was under a college student who is also a volleyball varsity in college division. His name was Karl Lozano and he’s our coach but we used to call him Kuya KarlJ. Trying out to be on the team is not easy at it looks like. Our body’s needs to be fitted, we should have strong and powerful legs, and we should feel very light, to reach that kind of physical situation we need to do lots of work outs such as sit-ups, curl-ups, pendulum, imaginary chair, and a lot more. We are having our volleyball training every day except for Thursdays after classes. The day of choosing who’ll get to be on the team came and the coach chose the first six I thought I wouldn’t be picked because of me being a low-blooded person, but when I heard my name I smiled and I am shouting in my thoughts. From that day my journey started as an athlete.
When I graduated I had plans of continuing what I started, but again it wasn’t easy I’m in high school level this time and it would be really hard for me because I’m still adjusting to my new environment like having very strict teachers, new coach, new grading system, and a whole lot more. We had this experimental section where you’ll study both math & science in advance. I tried my best in taking the entrance examination and in my try-outs. The week after I took both test I got the news that I got in the volleyball team and at the same day I found out that I was also one of the lucky qualifiers to enter the experimental section. It wasn’t easy choosing what to get and what to lose for me both are good opportunity but I thought harder then I finally got my decision. I chose to be on the experimental section than joining the volleyball team because this experimental section would be a great start for me in high school because I would be advanced and volleyball is only an extra curriculum activity. It was really hard for me letting go of the team but I should do what’s best for me.
The whole S.Y passed and it was really a blast, but I’m still missing one piece. Nothing could replace my love for volleyball. Since the day I learned something about volleyball I’m starting to have this volley fever and until now I’m still having that fever. Letting go of volleyball was really hard for me especially my volley friends. I’m turning 2nd year high school this year and new thing will happen. I’m begging my parents if they would let me to “try out” once more in volleyball but all my dad say is “Let us think about it we’ll tell you if the time is right”. How I wish to be on the team once more and play this game I have loved like no other sports. All I can do is to chase this sport dream.
